Ashley’s Indian relay horse racing team won the world at the Championship of Champions Indian relay horse racing event recently in Walla Walla, Washington. A sharp young lady discusses the efforts that paid off in route to their success.
Ogallala Lakota, Calvin Ghostbear is our guest today on Word With A Champ. Calvin is the president of the Horse Nations Indian Relay Council that recently hosted the Championship of Champions in Walla Walla, Washington. Calvin discusses the successful event and the potential of Indian relay horse racing and the families involved.
Colville Tribes Matthew Pakootas, A 19-year-old jockey from Washington, is our guest today on the Word With A Champ. Matthew and his team North West Express recently won a $30,000.00 world championship race in Indian relay horse racing. We visit with Matthew about his sweet victory at the Championship of Champions hosted by the Horse Nations Indian Relay Council in Walla Walla, Washington.
The Horse Nations Indian Relay Council, Championship of Champions concluded September 23, 2018 crowning a Washington team from the great Colville tribe called NW express as the world champions. Over 13 tribes from Canada and the United States were represented. $30,000 was paid out in three laps for the championship race. Today we have results and a short interview with Ashley Abrahamsson.
The Horse Nations Indian Relay Council, 2018 Championship of Champions enjoyed big crowds for the second of the three day event in Walla Walla, Washington. Friday and Saturday were qualifying races in the seven relay heat races, maidens, chiefs and warriors racing for championship Sunday afternoon. Over $50,000 in prize money will be distributed among the winners in each of the categories. We make history in Washington this week as it is the largest gathering of Indian relay horse race teams from the great horse nations with 38 in contention for the championship representing 13 tribes from the First Nations of Canada and American Indian tribal affiliations.
The 4th Annual Horse Nations Indian Relay Council, Championship of Champions, first performance concluded last night in Walla Walla Washington. An enthusiastic audience enjoyed Americas first extreme sport, that included nine teams from the First Nations of Canada, made history having the largest gathering in the history of the sport, with 38 Indian relay teams. We visit with Ashlee Abrahamsson from a winning team about this years competition.
Terry Woodcock of California is our guest this week on Word With A Champ. Cyclops his monster truck is a model of a 1969 C60 Chevrolet. Steve has Driven everything from this to stunt cars in Fast and Furious movies, superhero movies and more. We visit with Steve about this truck, a beautiful creation that is the 61st monster truck that he has built in his 38 year Monster Truck Hall of Fame career.
Sometimes monster truck racing is literally a family affair as it is with Aledo, Ohio’s Larry and Sharon Quick. Larry is a mild and modest man following a career of prizefighting in which he was 76-0. We have a fun conversation with Larry and his wife Sharon as they both drive and travel the world and in an extreme sports entertainment industry.
Keyshawn Whitehorse of Utah is representing the Navajo Nation in fine style as a top 35 contender in the Professional Bull Riders. Indian Country has a formidable contingency in the PBR with Keyshawn in addition to Chippewa Lakota, Stetson Lawrence; Cherokee, Ryan Dirteater and two time PBR Champion, Northern Cherokee, JB Mauney, riding bulls; Sicangu Lakota, Cooper Waln is fighting bulls. We had the privilege of visiting with a very modest, young gentleman, Keyshawn Whitehorse at the PBR event in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Sometimes it just take one good horse. Jessica Routier of South Dakota found that horse and is driving and riding to Qualify for the wrangler national finals rodeo this December in Las Vegas. Jessica, mother of five, discusses how Her life has changed and celebrates the support from her family.
